THE PROPOSAL
Wain Estates is preparing an outline planning application for land off Badgeworth Lane, Shurdington, which will include around 90 new homes and public open space.
The development of the site would deliver new homes in an attractive and sustainable location, adjacent to the village of Shurdington and the services and facilities it has to offer.
The vision for the site is to deliver an attractive, high-quality residential development in an edge of settlement location to help meet the housing needs of the village and the borough.
FIVE REASONS WHY...

LANDSCAPE AND BIODIVERSITY
A high-quality landscaping scheme sensitive to the existing landscape character which will enhance biodiversity and the environment for residents.

A NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD
A variety of new homes, ranging from starter homes to family homes, creating and adding to a diverse and balanced community.

SUSTAINABLE LOCATION
The site is sustainably located adjoining the development limits of Shurdington and is within walking distance of local services and facilities including a primary school, local convenience store, post office, community centre, sports club and public houses.

ENHANCE THE LOCAL AREA
The delivery of areas of public open space, including a children’s play area connected by the existing public right of way.

CREATE MUCH-NEEDED HOMES
The delivery of around 90 dwellings with a mix of market and affordable homes contributing to local housing need.
A WELL-CONNECTED LOCATION
The site is well connected to Shurdington with a range of facilities and services located within walking and cycling distance of the site. The local primary school is readily accessible, along with the local convenience store and post office, community centre, sports clubs and public houses.
Local bus stops are located on Shurdington Road providing regular services to Cheltenham and Gloucester, which provide a range of employment opportunities. Onward train journeys can be made from Cheltenham Spa station to a range of destinations including Reading, Bristol, London and Manchester.

MAINTAINING THE NATURAL CHARACTER
Sustainable drainage basins have been designed to the north of the site to effectively manage surface water run-off with drainage features to support and enhance the ecological value of the site.
The design of the development has been led by providing a green buffer and area of public open space to the north of the site whilst retaining existing trees and hedgerows around the edge of the site, where possible. This also includes the protection of green infrastructure corridors.
The proposal includes pedestrian access to Badgeworth Lane and a footpath link to the existing public right of way, providing connectivity to Lambert Avenue and the wider countryside.
